Meet & Greet Our Safety Power Boat
Our Safety Coordinator, Noal Childs, and our Certified Sailing Instructor & Club Secretary Bryan Graves, are teaming up to host an introduction to our Safety Power Boat on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at 3 PM at the Forebay.
This is not a certification course nor a power boat check off session—it’s simply an opportunity to gain familiarity with power boat basics.
California Power Boating Requirement
Per California state law, anyone operating a motorized boat must have a valid California Boater Card. If you don’t have California Boater Card, please do the following prior to Wednesday, March 26:
Complete a Boater Card course through the CA State Parks Division of Boating and Waterways
Pass the exam, apply and pay the fee for your official Boater Card ($10 fee)
Bring your Boater Card and life jacket to the session (bring you temporary Boater ID if your permanent card isn't available)
For a handy reference, check out the ABCs of California Boating.
Bonus Fun!
This session coincides with our monthly March Super Wet Wednesday, so after we dock, let’s feast! Bring a dish to share and enjoy some good company and tall sailing tales.
Important Reminders:
RSVP Appreciated
If you’d like to join, please RSVP by emailing membership@buttesailingclub.org or calling Sabrina at (530) 682-8961.

Race Day - Sunday July 7th
July 7th, the 5th in our series of club “Race Days" has been postponed due to heat! Check back for updates with a new date.
Plan to arrive around 1:00 pm to get your boat set up.
The first race will start at 2:00 pm.
All boat classes and levels of sailing experience are welcome. If you are a beginner, just follow the leader! If we have more than 3 boats of a particular class, they will get their own start. Otherwise come sail in the “free-for-all” class and just have fun getting around the course.
There will be a skippers meeting at 1:30 pm to make sure everyone knows the course and explain the rules.
Reminder- if you have not yet paid your 2024 membership dues, please do so here!

Lake Almanor Campout and FunsailThe Butte Sailing Club is planning a sailing/camping excursion at Lake Almanor for the September 21-22 weekend. All members are invited to join in the activities.
The essence of the plan is as follows: You do not need to bring a sailboat to partake. Paddleboards, kayaks, or any water related craft can join the action. No club boats will be used (except maybe lasers) so the idea is to bring up member owned boats and take other members out for a ride. The plan is to have 5 or 6 boats up there. |
One lucky member will choose the first come/first serve campsite (or two) on Thursday to reserve it until Sunday noonish (interested in being that somebody?)
Members interested in a day only or an overnight adventure should rsvp with Jordan on what/when, and how to make sure there is room for another tent and boat.
The winds can be quite active in the early afternoons at Almanor so expect a strong breeze.
This is a first ever attempt for an Almanor excursion. Reply back with questions, comments, or just saying "I'm on board" for the adventure.

A September Sunday Sailboat Race
Rebecca and Rich are back from summer travel and will host a sailboat race on Sunday September 22. As always this is for fun and all boat types and abilities are welcome! Assistance will be available for newer racers and the Laser sailors.
Boats will go in the water after lunch, about 1pm.
