Intro to Sailing Summer Classes

Instructor: BSC Members
Location: Thermalito Forebay, 930 Garden Drive, Oroville
Join the Butte Sailing Club for an introduction to sailing. The course covers boating safety, knots, rigging, and sailing theory. On the water skills such as boat handling, docking, sail trim, and capsize recovery will be taught on the Vagabond 14 sailboats. This class follows the guidelines set by US Sailing but does not offer a US Sailing certificate.
What to Expect
You will get wet! Bring a towel. Wear clothes that are comfortable and can get wet, shoes should either be tennis shoes or sandals with a heel strap. NO FLIP FLOPS.
Class fee includes membership to the club for 2025.

Wet Wednesdays - Fun Sail and Social
Wet Wednesdays are a BSC staple and have already started for the year! Join friends on the water usually about 2:00 until ? for a relaxing sail on the Forebay with other sailors. Folks sail their own boats or club boats (after you are officially checked out). Whether a pleasure sail or a fun race around the buoys, it is always a better day being on the water. Also, Club members can get checked out for club boat use with a Board member on Wet Wednesdays and by appointment!*

Don't miss the last Wednesday of every month when we have a themed potluck on Wet Wednesday! Bring a side dish to share.

*Open House and Checkout Days (TBD) is a time for board and members to assist their fellow sailors and the public including - but not limited to:
- Performing boat check out skills tests
- Swimming and capsize competencies.
- Assisting in raising / lowering masts of members boats
- Open house for public and perspective new members
- Meet and greet for perspective students
- Performing Safety and maintenance needs of the club
- Speed Tuning of club boats – (if wind calls for it)
